Extremely Pure Barium Nitrate
Barium nitrate with chemical formula Ba(NO3)2 is a salt composed of barium and the nitrate ion.
It exists as a white solid at room temperature. It is soluble in water, and like other soluble barium compounds, is toxic and should be handled with care. It occurs naturally as the rare mineral nitrobarite.
It is formed with the nitrogen-oxygen group NO3−, and chlorate, formed with the chlorine-oxygen group ClO3−, are used for this effect in green signal flares and fireworks.
Applications of Barium Nitrate are:-
1. Firework/Pyrotechnic Industries
2. Explosive Industries
3. Vacuum Tube
4. Other Barium Compound manufacturing
For Industrial production, barium carbonate is suspended in recycled mother liquor and reacted with nitric acid. If necessary, heavy metals are precipitated, and the solution is filtered hot. The nitrate is then crystallized, if necessary with vacuum evaporation.
