Sodium hydroxide is the chemical name of caustic soda or lye. Caustic soda is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula NaOH. Sodium hydroxide is a white-colored ionic compound that contains Na+ and OH- cat-ions and anions, respectively. It has a corrosive impact on plant and animal tissues.
