Sodium cyanide is a weak salt acid that is highly poisonous and used widely in the mining industry.
Sodium cyanide (NaCN) is an inorganic compound (does not establish carbon and hydrogen bond) used in the mining industry, making dyes, cleaning metals, and preparing nitriles. It is also highly demanding as a test reagent for the functioning of chemoreceptors and in industrial processes. It can be prepare by reacting hydrogen cyanide (HCN) with sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and gives a faint odor of bitter almonds. Sodium cyanide is also known as Cyanide of sodium or Cyanogen. It contains sodium and a one-carbon compound. It is an ionic compound that contains sodium cat-ion and cyanide anion, and carbon forms a triple bond with nitrogen to adopt a crystalline structure like sodium chloride.
HCN +NaOH → NaCN + H2O
This compound is highly poisonous when ingested may cause death when swallowed in small amounts because cyanide salt is present as it is the fastest acting poison. It also causes damage to respiratory organs or blocks them completely when inhaled, as it releases hydrogen cyanide gas slowly into the air.
Sodium cyanide is a white crystalline solid. It is a highly water-soluble compound and highly toxic salt because of its high affinity for metals. Means solid sodium cyanide can absorb water from the surroundings and turn into liquid. Sodium cyanide is a strong base, and when reacted with acids like sulphuric acid, it produces a highly toxic gas (Hydrogen cyanide).
Sodium cyanide is an essential chemical for electroplating and gold and silver mining and produces by many countries across the globe. Due to its application in the industry, it is in demand all over the world.
It is used in numerous industrial applications like:-
… and many more.
We can provide 98% pure sodium cyanide that gives the best results for mining gold and silver.
