WHAT IS ZINC NITRATE
Zinc Nitrate is an inorganic compound that is typically encountered as a hexahydrate form. This water-soluble compound is also soluble in alcohol. It is a colorless and deliquescent crystalline solid. It is non-combustible but speeds up the burning of combustible materials. Prolonged submission to heat results in an explosion. Oxides of nitrogen are toxically generated in fires involving this material. It is used as a catalyst in the manufacture of other chemicals.
It is colorless powder or white lumps. It has a monoclinic crystalline structure. When heated or decomposed, it emits toxic fumes of Nitrogen Oxides and zinc oxide. It loses water of crystallization at above 105C. Inhaling dust may irritate the throat. If it is swallowed, it can lead to corrosion of the alimentary tract. Contact with skin irritates and can cause rashes. When heated it releases nitrogen oxide which is toxic in nature. When it comes in contact with some material it can intensify the fire. When it is put in an aqueous solution, hydroxide anions coming from water releases the nitrate anions. The reaction gives the formation of hydronium ions, which is why the solution is regarded as acidic. It is a hygroscopic compound and even corrosive.

It has a specific gravity of 20.07 at 20°C. Moreover, it sinks and mixes in water rapidly. It is prepared by a concentration-dependent process. Simply dissolve zinc in nitric acid and the resultants would be ammonium nitrate and Zinc Nitrate.
